| Finally got a little work done that I have been putting off...don't know why I was tentative to get started on cutting the transom frame and mounting to the plywood, but I was. I did scratch my head again for a while on how to get true 12 degree plung-cuts on the frame but ultimately decided I would make a simple (perhaps crude is a better term) jig for the router I borrowed from dad. I used a couple of scraps originally cut from the transom frame (at 12 degrees on the table saw) spaced to the tickness of the frame and held in place with a couple of scraps with straight (true) edges. With the jig set over the frame (removed from the transom plywood) I could get a perfect 2" cut angled at twelve degrees for the longitudinals and for the internal keel I simply cut one side first then the other to get a 4" wide cut. The jig worked great! For the chine and sheer I went back to the jig saw and acheived the angle with some careful hand chisle work. |

| What to do while glue is drying? Well I have spent a lot of time on the net looking at boat hardware, pictures of other Malahini's, motors, and the like when I stumbled on a website for knot tying. So I aquired a piece of 25' marine nylon braided 3-strand rope and went to work. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Back-splice Eye was relatively easy (just took some time and patience) but I particularly like the Sail-maker's Whip. Check out the definitive site for animated knots by Grog at www.animatedknots.com. There is plenty of history about individual knots and recomended uses. I'll try my hand at the proper way to tie an unhitched coil in the not-so-distant future. |
